World's largest cargo ship of Modern History is ready to sail.

Anemos, the world’s largest sailing cargo ship, has embarked on its maiden voyage from Concarneau in South Brittany, marking the beginning of a new chapter in maritime history. This pioneering vessel, a marvel of engineering crafted by PIRIOU shipyard and brought to life by Transoceanic Wind Transport (TOWT), is set to reach Le Havre early next week. Following essential loading operations, it will chart a course across the Atlantic to New York City, arriving around August 20, 2024. As Anemos sails into uncharted waters, it represents more than just a vessel it also embodies a bold vision for the future of shipping. With its advanced sail technology and automated rigging, inspired by the precision of ocean racing, Anemos is designed to challenge traditional shipping norms and significantly reduce environmental impact. Its journey is not just a test of its capabilities but a testament to humanity’s relentless pursuit of innovation and sustainability in our quest to protect the planet. With its impressive dimensions 81 meters in length, 15 meters in width, and 63 meters in height, Anemos is the first of eight planned sailing cargo ships. Anemos’s reliance on wind rather than diesel or heavy fuel oil means a reduced risk of oil spills and less impact on marine ecosystems. Traditional shipping fuels contribute to ocean acidification—a process where the ocean becomes more acidic due to increased CO2 levels—negatively affecting coral reefs and marine life. By reducing its reliance on such fuels, Anemos helps mitigate these adverse effects.
