Technology group Wartsila has announced that it will supply the
cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems for five new Very Large Ethane Carrier
(VLEC) vessels, marking a significant step in its collaboration with Jiangnan
Shipyard. This order, which was booked in the third quarter of 2024, is for
vessels being constructed for Chinese owners, highlighting the growing demand
for advanced maritime technology in the region. The delivery of Wartsila's
equipment is scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2026. This new order
follows a similar agreement made in 2023, where Jiangnan Shipyard also
contracted Wartsila to provide cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems for
four VLECs. These systems are crucial for the efficient and safe transportation
of ethane, ensuring that the vessels operate under the highest standards of
environmental and operational performance. Wartsila's commitment to providing
cutting-edge technology in the gas carrier segment not only reinforces its role
as a leader in maritime solutions but also supports the industry's transition
towards more sustainable practices. With this latest order, Wartsila is
well-positioned to meet the increasing needs of the shipping market, especially
as the demand for specialized gas carriers continues to rise globally.
