Wan Hai is investing up to $2.5 billion in new container ships.

Wan Hai has announced to the Taiwan Stock Exchange that they’ve entered into a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Taiwanese shipyard CSBC for the construction of twelve new 8,000 TEU container ships, with an option to add up to four more vessels. These new ships will be equipped with advanced methanol dual-fuel propulsion systems, reflecting a commitment to more sustainable shipping practices. The contract, which involves Wan Hai’s Singapore-based subsidiary, Wai Hai Lines (Singapore), has a price range of $102.5 million to $124 million per vessel. If the optional four ships are included, the total value of the order could reach up to $1.984 billion. This significant investment underscores Wan Hai’s strategic push to expand its fleet with state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly vessels.
