The Domestic P&I Club is now concentrating on coastal shipping.

Since India has less than 1 percent of the global shipping fleet, starting an Indian P&I Club would need a lot of backing from international markets, including support from both ship owners and reinsurers. As Indian-flagged ships make up just 0.8% of the global fleet, starting a domestic Protection & Indemnity Club seems a bit unrealistic. So, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways is changing the plan to concentrate on coastal shipping instead and also offering fixed premiums and affordable options for coastal operators could help lower their operating costs. The government is also working on creating green coastal corridors to help smoothly transition to eco-friendly shipping and ports.
