A handover ceremony at the Port of Lobito in Angola marked the completion of the pilot Single Window for Facilitation of Trade (SWiFT) project for the newly developed Maritime Single Window (MSW) platform. Conducted after a successful week-long user acceptance testing session, the MSW digital system allows efficient electronic submission of required information for ship clearance during port calls. As of January 1, 2024, it will be mandatory for ports worldwide to operate Maritime Single Windows, aligning with international shipping's push for digitalization and decarbonization. The SWiFT project, a strategic partnership between IMO and Singapore, supports medium-sized ports in establishing secure digital interconnectivity to meet IMO's obligations under the FAL Convention. The initiative enhances efficiencies for international shipping, port operations, and global supply chains.
