From January to July 2024, Spanish general interest ports
processed a total of 330,322,598 tons of cargo, marking a 3% increase compared
to the same period in 2023. This growth reflects an uptick in various types of
cargo handled at these ports. Specifically, general cargo rose by 7.1% to reach
165.6 million tons. A significant portion of this increase was driven by a
notable rise in containerized traffic, which has become a key component of the
ports’ cargo throughput. This trend underscores the ports' expanding role in
global shipping and their capacity to manage growing volumes of containerized
goods efficiently.
