A collaborative effort between ship management company Laskaridis Shipping, digital technology provider METIS Cyberspace Technology, and classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) has resulted in significant advancements in digitalization for sustainable shipping. The partnership, initiated in June 2022, has led to the development of new notations recognizing the latest in digitalization and augmented data usage for optimizing shipping operations and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. BV granted an Approval in Principle to METIS Cyberspace for its METIS Ship Connect System, an automated data acquisition platform. The bulk carrier LETO, managed by Laskaridis Shipping and equipped with METIS Ship Connect, became the first vessel to receive BV's DATAINFRA and SMART notations. These notations acknowledge the vessel's advanced data infrastructure and incorporation of smart functions for energy efficiency, speed optimization, weather routing, and emissions monitoring. The initiative focuses on leveraging big data and AI technology to enhance ship management, reduce emissions, and optimize vessel performance. The project underscores the maritime industry's commitment to embracing digital solutions for a sustainable future.
