Second Chinese vessel carrying ship-to-shore crane for Vizhinjam port docks at facility

in a significant development, the second Chinese vessel, Zhen Hua 29, carrying a ship-to-shore crane for the Vizhinjam international deep-sea facility, has received clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and docked at the port on Monday. The port, a Rs 7,700 crore project under public-private partnership, is being developed by the Adani Group. The first ship, Zhen Hua 15, had already delivered cranes for the deep-water facility, and with the latest arrival, progress continues towards making Vizhinjam one of the world's largest ports. The project, initially slated for commissioning in 2019, faced delays due to land acquisition issues and protests from fishermen concerned about its impact on their livelihoods.
