The Sarawak Legislative Assembly has been informed that the takeover process of Bintulu Port from the federal government is set to be finalized by July 2024. Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Majang Renggi, highlighted that the state government is actively working on legal provisions and necessary arrangements to assume control of the port. The move aligns with Sarawak's persistent desire to restore its rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). Bintulu Port, currently under the Ministry of Transport, is considered a vital federal port crucial to Sarawak's economic ecosystem. The transition is expected to be seamless without disrupting port operations.
