The Port of Taranto has marked a significant milestone with the
completion of its digitalization of the Free Customs Zone (Zona Franca Doganale
di Taranto), becoming Italy’s second fully digitized Free Customs Zone
following the Free Port of Trieste. Led by Autorita di Sistema Portuale Del Mar
Ionio, this comprehensive upgrade integrates advanced digital technologies to
modernize customs operations, including real-time data processing, automated
documentation, and enhanced electronic communication. This shift promises to
streamline customs procedures, drastically reduce processing times, and improve
overall operational efficiency, while also enhancing transparency and security
through better data management. The digital transformation is expected to lower
operational costs and make the port a more attractive destination for trade,
reinforcing its position in the Mediterranean logistics landscape. This
achievement not only boosts the Port of Taranto’s competitiveness but also sets
a new benchmark for other ports in Italy, potentially driving widespread
adoption of similar digital innovations across the country.
