Port of Hueneme is using special barges from STAX Engineering to clean up ship exhaust and reduce pollution.

The US Port of Hueneme, located just north of Los Angeles, is stepping up its environmental efforts by collaborating with STAX Engineering to use cutting-edge technology for reducing ship emissions. They’re introducing self-propelled barges that are equipped with a long boom and vacuum pipe system. These barges will be positioned alongside docked ships to capture exhaust directly from the vessels’ stacks. The exhaust is then funneled to the barge, where STAX’s advanced filtration technology removes up to 99% of particulate matter (PM) and 95% of nitrogen oxides (NOx). This new system aims to dramatically cut down on air pollution around the port, reflecting a strong commitment to cleaner, more sustainable port operations.
