The Piraeus Port Authority has reported a positive
financial performance for the first half of 2024, showing increased revenue and
profit. Operated by China’s COSCO Shipping Ports Limited, the authority
achieved total revenue of €107.1 million, marking a 4.6% increase from €102.4
million in the same period of 2023. This growth can be attributed to several
factors, including a rise in container throughput and enhanced operational
efficiency. The port has seen a boost in its cargo handling services, which has
led to higher revenue from shipping lines and logistics operations.
Additionally, increased trade activity in the region has contributed to the
positive results, reflecting Piraeus's strategic importance as a key
Mediterranean gateway. The report underscores the effectiveness of COSCO’s management
in driving improvements at the port, positioning Piraeus as a competitive
player in global maritime trade. As the port continues to expand its
capabilities and services, it aims to sustain this growth trajectory in the
coming months and years.
