In August, Pilbara Ports reported a solid increase
in total monthly throughput, reaching 65.8 million tonnes (Mt)—a 5% rise
compared to the same month last year. At the Port of Port Hedland, throughput
was 48.6 Mt, with iron ore exports making up 47.9 Mt. This figure was
consistent with August 2023. Imports saw a minor uptick, totaling 173,000
tonnes, which is just 1,000 tonnes more than last year. The Port of Dampier had
a noteworthy performance, handling 15.7 Mt of throughput. This was an
impressive 18% increase from August 2023. Imports at Dampier also grew
significantly, reaching 95,232 tonnes, up 23% from the previous year. The port
authority highlighted that these fluctuations in throughput are influenced by a
range of factors, including market conditions, maintenance activities, and the
varying needs of port operators.
