Ocean Winds has appointed Wood Thilsted, a leading
engineering consultancy, to develop the concept design for the turbine
foundations of the 2GW Caledonia offshore wind project located in the Moray
Firth. The project, which spans 429 square kilometres, will see Wood Thilsted
utilize extensive ground and metocean data gathered from the site to create
detailed models for the foundation designs. This partnership marks a
continuation of their collaborative efforts, having previously worked together
on wind projects in Poland and the US. The engineering team will also benefit
from Ocean Winds’ extensive experience with the adjacent Moray East and Moray
West projects. Moray West, currently under construction, has recently achieved
its first power and is approaching completion. The design work for the
Caledonia project, which is one of the few ScotWind projects slated to be
operational by 2030, is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
Additionally, onshore and offshore consents for the project are expected to be
submitted in the autumn, moving the project closer to its development
milestones.
