GFI LNG and Pilot LNG, both headquartered in
Houston, are projecting to develop a new LNG terminal in Salina Cruz, Mexico.
The project is scheduled to begin construction in early 2025 and is expected to
be fully operational by mid-to-late 2027. The terminal will be designed to
produce around 600,000 gallons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per day. It will
use a floating storage unit (FSU) with a capacity between 50,000 and 140,000
cubic meters for storing LNG. The gas will be sourced from the Veracruz region
of Mexico. Strategically located, the terminal will cater to vessels navigating
the Panama Canal, facilitating LNG refuelling at a crucial transit point.
Additionally, it will supply LNG to key ports in Southern California, including
Los Angeles and Long Beach, as well as meet demands in Central American power
markets and provide fuel for trucks in south-western Mexico. GFI LNG brings
over 20 years of experience in the Mexican energy sector, while Pilot LNG is
recognized for its clean energy infrastructure projects. Together, they aim to
enhance LNG availability and support regional energy needs with this new
facility.
