Mumbai Port Authority plans to develop a marina in the sea using the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC).

The Mumbai Port Authority has decided to develop a marina in the sea using its own funds, moving away from the previous plan to build it on land through a public-private partnership (PPP). Rajiv Jalota, the Chairman of the authority, explained that the studies are well advanced and necessary clearances should come soon. Initially, the marina was intended to be built at the port's Princess Dock, where bidders were expected to invest around Rs 575.19 crores to create a facility for at least 300 pleasure boats and yachts. However, after floating tenders twice and not receiving any bids, the authority shifted its approach. This decision reflects a broader strategy to enhance leisure activities along the waterfront, particularly given the limited scope for cargo expansion in the busy urban port. The move is part of Mumbai's larger plan for waterfront regeneration, focusing on making better use of the area for recreational purposes.
