Maersk is set to invest $2 billion in Pakistan's maritime sector.

Maersk, is set to invest nearly $2 billion in Pakistan’s maritime sector following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Danish Minister for Industry, Business, and Financial Affairs, H.E. Morten Bodskov, and Pakistani Minister for Maritime Affairs, Qaiser Ahmed Shaikh. During the signing ceremony, Denmark’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Jacob Linulf, presented the signed document. Minister Shaikh expressed his gratitude to the Danish government for this significant breakthrough in the maritime sector. He noted that this investment will enable the integration of logistics hubs at all ports, the establishment of deep-water container terminals in Karachi, the creation of ship recycling facilities in Gaddani that meet International Maritime Organization (IMO) and European Union (EU) standards, and enhancements to the curriculum and equipment at the Pakistan Marine Academy, along with ongoing technical and training support for local ports. Minister Shaikh emphasized Maersk's critical role in Pakistan’s shipping industry, pointing out that the company holds a commanding 20% market share in containerized imports and exports in the country. He also highlighted that Maersk has a global market capital of around 175 billion Danish Krone. The minister noted that both the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Danish government have been collaborating for the past six months to achieve this fruitful partnership, reflecting their mutual commitment to strengthening ties and advancing the maritime sector in Pakistan.
