The Liberian Registry, the world’s largest ship
registry, has announced the renewal of a key maritime agreement with China.
This renewed partnership, signed by Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr., Commissioner of the
Liberia Maritime Authority, and Li Xiaopeng, China’s Transport Minister, is set
to boost relations between the two countries and provide significant benefits
for Liberian-flagged vessels. Alfonso Castillero, CEO of the Liberian
International Ship and Corporate Registry, expressed enthusiasm about the
renewed agreement, highlighting that it not only enhances Liberia's maritime
cooperation with China but also offers crucial advantages to their fleet. The
new agreement creates a dedicated channel for sharing information on Port State
Control (PSC) issues and offers important port benefits. These include faster
customs procedures and smoother port operations for Liberian ships in both
Chinese and Liberian ports. Both countries are committed to reducing delays and
improving the efficiency of operations for vessels registered under their
flags.
