Indonesian Vessel LCT CAHAYA DANA REZA Capsizes; Crew Rescued, Cargo Recovery Underway

On January 23, the Indonesian-flagged vessel LCT CAHAYA DANA REZA capsized in waters near Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan. The incident occurred around 11:30 PM (WITA) while the vessel was traveling from Samarinda to Buntok. After developing a leak, the captain attempted to anchor for inspection, but the situation worsened, leading to the vessel taking on water. Despite efforts to reach shallower waters, the vessel sank, leaving only the hull visible. Fortunately, all nine crew members were rescued by the nearby tugboat Atlantik Star 11. The LCT was carrying approximately 150 tons of mixed cargo, and recovery operations are currently in progress, with a notice issued for other vessels to steer clear of the area.
