India's finished steel imports from China surged to a four-year high in the first seven months of the fiscal year, reaching 1.1 million metric tons, a 47.3% increase year-on-year. China, the world's top steel producer, mainly exported cold-rolled coil or sheets to India. Overall finished steel imports in India during April-October touched a four-year high at 3.5 million metric tonnes. Despite being a net exporter, the Indian government is considering safeguards to protect its steel industry. South Korea was the second-largest exporter of finished steel to India during this period.
