Hutchison Ports BEST has introduced Southern Europe's first
electric Reach Stacker at the Port of Barcelona, marking a major step in its
plan to cut the terminal's carbon footprint and boost sustainability. This new
Sany model, which lifts up to 45 tonnes, replaces older diesel equipment with
clean, lithium battery-powered machinery. The move will cut emissions by 260
tons of CO2e annually, significantly improving air quality in the area.
Guillermo Belcastro, CEO of Hutchison Ports BEST, highlighted the terminal's
commitment to reducing emissions by 80% by 2030 and achieving net zero by 2040.
The next big step? Connecting a container ship to 100% green electricity this
September, making BEST the first Southern European terminal to offer this green
service.
