GAIL, an Indian company, transports LNG from the US to India covering 19,554 nautical miles, emitting 15,600 tonnes of CO2. Emission control involves technology and altering cargo destinations. GAIL's innovative approach involves transferring LNG mid-journey from the Castillo De Santisteban to QatarGas' Al Gharrafa via the world's first ship-to-ship transfer between a conventional and a Q-Flex LNG vessel. The QatarGas vessel then completed the journey to Dahej, Gujarat, saving 8,736 nautical miles and reducing CO2 emissions by 7,000 tonnes. This process shortened the voyage from 54 to approximately 27 days for GAIL's vessel.
