EMF and Atlas Maritime placed an order for three new ammonia carriers.

In March 2024, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the parent company of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI), announced a significant $372 million order for new vessels but did not reveal the name of the buyer at that time. Recently, it has been confirmed that the order was placed by EMF and HD HHI. The order includes three advanced 88,000 cubic meter LPG dual-fuel carriers designed to be versatile, as they can both transport and operate on ammonia fuel. These carriers are part of a larger trend towards greener shipping solutions, aiming to reduce the maritime industry's carbon footprint. The vessels are expected to be delivered by the end of December 2027, reflecting a long-term investment in cleaner energy technologies and a commitment to supporting the transition towards more sustainable shipping practices. The dual-fuel capability of these carriers will enable them to meet evolving environmental regulations and contribute to the broader goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime sector.
