Recent research by the Zero Emission Maritime Buyers Alliance
(ZEMBA) and Lloyd’s Register (LR) Maritime Decarbonisation Hub indicates that
e-fuel-powered shipping services will be featured in ZEMBA's upcoming tender.
This follows a request for information (RFI) conducted by both organizations
earlier in 2024, which revealed a promising predicted supply of e-methanol and
a sufficient number of vessels capable of utilizing e-methanol within the
container segment. The report highlights that this availability supports
ZEMBA's commitment to advancing e-fuel deployment in the maritime sector. The
next tender is set to be issued in early 2025, with the objective of acquiring
the environmental benefits associated with e-fuel-powered shipping services
beginning in 2027. This initiative reflects a significant step toward achieving
decarbonization goals in shipping, as ZEMBA continues to seek sustainable
solutions for the industry.
