As part of the International Maritime Organization's goal for net-zero emissions in shipping by 2050, China, a major shipping nation, is making rapid strides in green technologies. Chinese shipbuilding companies, exemplified by the China State Shipbuilding Corporation, showcase innovations such as using carbon dioxide as a refrigerant in air conditioning systems and implementing carbon capture technology. The latter is specifically designed for around 10,000 ships unable to use new energy as fuels. With over 45% of new shipbuilding orders in China being for green ships, the country aims to leverage its industrial foundation and technological research strength to contribute significantly to global maritime decarbonization
