Cavotec has secured two contracts totaling €6.5
million to supply PowerMove shore power systems, also known as cold ironing, to
two unnamed Mediterranean ports. These systems are designed to enable cruise
ships and Ro-Ro vessels to connect to shore power while docked, allowing them
to turn off their engines and significantly reduce emissions during their stay.
The first order includes several Power Move mobile cable management systems,
which facilitate easy and safe connections between the vessels and the shore
power supply. This technology not only enhances operational efficiency but also
supports ports in their efforts to promote sustainability and comply with
environmental regulations. By implementing these shore power systems, the ports
will be able to improve air quality in surrounding areas and reduce noise
pollution, contributing to a more pleasant experience for both passengers and
local residents. This move aligns with global trends towards greener shipping
practices and highlights Cavotec's commitment to providing innovative solutions
that support the maritime industry's transition to more sustainable operations.
