Bernhard Schulte has expanded its fleet portfolio with the order of its first CO2 tanker, slated for delivery in 2026. The vessel, to be constructed at Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore (DSOC), will incorporate innovative technologies aimed at significantly reducing its carbon footprint. The newbuilding is committed to a long-term time charter agreement with Northern Lights, a joint venture owned by Shell, TotalEnergies, and Equinor. The vessel is part of the development of the world's first cross-border CO2 transport and storage infrastructure. All four sister vessels, with a cargo capacity of 7,500 m3, will transport liquefied CO2 from Northern Lights' customers across Northwest Europe to the CO2 receiving terminal in Øygarden, Norway. The ships will employ LNG dual fuel, wind-assisted rotor sail, and air lubrication technologies, resulting in a 34% lower carbon footprint compared to conventional ships.
