Thiruvananthapuram: More container ships from
Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), one of the largest shipping firms in the
world, are starting to arrive at Vizhinjam Port as its commissioning date
approaches at the end of October. Port authorities are currently conducting
trial runs for loading and unloading containers with the cranes set up at the
site. Following the arrival of MSC's massive vessel, the "Claude
Girardet," last week, a steady flow of ships has begun docking. Officials
confirmed that two vessels of different sizes can berth at the same time. On
September 19, the "Tavvishi" arrived with around 4,000 containers,
and the unloading process is nearly finished, with the vessel set to depart on
Sunday. A smaller ship, the "Eyra," is also at the port, unloading
200 containers before heading back later in the day. Earlier, the MSC vessel
"Eva" had already visited. This Sunday afternoon, two more vessels,
the "Rose," measuring 364 meters long and 51 meters wide, and
"Capetown-3," which is 223 meters long and 30 meters wide, are
expected to dock. Additionally, MSC's mother ship, "Anna," which is
400 meters long and 58 meters wide, is slated to arrive at Vizhinjam Port early
on September 25.
