Albania has announced a substantial investment of about €54 million for the development of a NATO naval base at the Porto Romano site, which was previously an Adriatic Sea oil port. This location, situated northwest of Albania’s primary port city, Durres, is set to be transformed into a strategic naval facility. The investment aims to bolster NATO’s presence in the region and enhance maritime security. Defence Minister Pirro Vëngu revealed these plans during the Tirana Connectivity Forum, highlighting the importance of this project for Albania’s defense strategy and regional stability.
