India's imports of finished steel from China have surged to a four-year high in the first seven months of the fiscal year, reaching 1.1 million metric tons, a 47.3% YoY increase, according to provisional government data. China, the world's leading steel producer, primarily exported cold-rolled coil or sheets to India. The Indian steel industry has called for government safeguards against Chinese imports. While South Korea was the second-largest exporter of finished steel to India, the country remained a net exporter overall during April-October. Concerns about rising steel imports have been raised by India's federal steel secretary.
