India has solidified its position as the world's second-largest seaborne importer of coal after China, accounting for 17.9% of the global market in 2023. According to shipbroker Banchero Costa, global coal trade has rebounded to pre-COVID levels, with seaborne coal loadings increasing by 5.8% year-on-year (YoY) to 1,224.5 million metric tons from January to November 2023.
