China has outlined plans to expand its production of oilseed crops, maintain stability in livestock and fishery production, and increase the minimum purchase price for wheat as part of efforts to enhance food security. The official work report emphasizes the need for an
all-encompassing approach to agriculture and food to ensure a secure food supply for the country's large population. By boosting domestic oilseed production, China aims to reduce reliance on imports, particularly for animal feed grains like soybeans. The state planner, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), targets a grain output of over 650 million metric tons by 2024 and plans to spend $19.54 billion on stockpiling grain, edible oils, and other materials in 2024, reflecting an 8.1% increase from the previous year.
