The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index edged up slightly, but marked its third consecutive weekly decline as shipping rates for capesize, panamax, and supramax vessels hovered near multi-week lows. The overall index rose by 0.3%, with the capesize segment experiencing its first increase in eight sessions. However, the capesize index still recorded a 17.4% weekly drop. Panamax and supramax segments faced challenges, with the latter hitting a more than three-week low. Major shipping companies like Maersk and CMA CGM announced extra charges due to rerouting ships following Red Sea attacks, adding to the complexities faced by the shipping industry.
